CRISTINA SÁNCHEZ URTIZ, partner, was born in Mexico City, on April 7, 1961. Her practice is mainly focused in the areas of corporate law, commercial and tax law, covering the incorporation, merger, spin-off and liquidation of companies, as well as joint ventures, acquisitions, associations and corporate restructuring and, in general, representation of foreign companies doing business in Mexico and Central America.
Miss Sánchez-Urtiz's corporate practice includes legal audits, due diligence, stock sales and purchases, shareholders' and joint venture agreements and specialized counseling on the tax implications thereof.
Miss Sánchez-Urtiz's main area of practice, however, is in the area of tax law, where she provides counseling and advice to domestic and international clients, both as concerns the Mexican tax and other legal provisions and also within the realm of the treaties executed by México with other countries to avoid double taxation and to prevent tax evasion. Miss Sánchez-Urtiz's practice within the tax area includes counseling on the transfer pricing provisions, as well as on customs law.
Further to her counseling practice, Miss Sánchez-Urtiz is currently engaged in tax, customs and administrative litigation, including constitutional protection (amparo) litigation, before the tax and administrative authorities and courts and before the federal judicial courts.
Miss Sánchez-Urtiz received her Law Degree in 1988 from Instituto Tecnológico Autónomo de México with the professional thesis "Legal Protection of Personal Information".
Miss Sánchez-Urtiz is a member of the Barra Mexicana, Colegio de Abogados (Mexican Bar Association) and participates in the Public Financing and Tax Law Commission of said Bar; is Chair of the Carnet ATA Committee of the Foreign Trade Commission of the Mexican Chapter of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) and is also a member of the Mexican Group of the International Fiscal Association (IFA).
